Sic Semper Tyrannis

While the Pentagon abandoning active duty time limits, and Bush’s more-of-the-same-only-better “surge” underway in Iraq, it’s nice to know that the Air Force has plenty of spare resources to get bent out of shape because a female drill instructor is hot.

“I was extremely excited about it,” Manhart said. “I remember asking, ‘Is there anything beyond this? What else can come of this?’”

That is a question the Air Force is trying to answer. Manhart last week told a superior she would appear in the next issue of Playboy and was relieved of duty pending an investigation.

“This staff sergeant’s alleged action does not meet the high standards we expect of our airmen, nor does it comply with the Air Force’s core values of integrity, service before self and excellence in all we do,” Lackland spokesman Oscar Balladares said, reading from an Air Force statement. “It is not representative of the many thousands of outstanding airmen who serve in the U.S. Air Force today.”

So, essentially, daring to be female and have her photograph taken doesn’t conform to the “high standards” of the US Air Force. And, apparently, it is impossible to be a good-looking naked woman and be an outstanding airman. I never would’ve guessed that one’s willingness to pose naked had any bearing on whether or not one was a competent drill instructor. Learn something every day, I guess.

  1. I wonder if she still would have been canned had she posed for Maxim instead. Or maybe they would have just tossed her in a military prison for a while. On the other hand, this could have allowed her the opportunity to pose for a “Hot Chicks in the Brig” follow-up.

  2. Keep in mind that the millitary still conforms to strict moral codes, such as that it is a military criminal offense to have adultery as an officer.

This isn’t too suprising…at least to me (shrugs shoulders)

  3. As FranK_A pointed out, they do have strict moral codes. But how does being proud of the body you live in show bad character or a lack of discipline? I wonder how it’s immoral.
